At least 15-20 mins (sometimes I overboiled by about 10 mins as I am very busy elsewhere). Pictured in the collage above are shells from nine (9) eggs.<\/li>\n<li>Peel and oven bake for 20-30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Use coffee grinder. Blend a few seconds at a time to a fine level.<\/li>\n<li>Store. Done.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To recap ~ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthdirect.gov.au\/calcium#:~:text=Adult%20men%20*%2019%20\u2013%2070%20years:,71%20years%20and%20older:%201%2C300mg%20per%20day.\">the <strong>RDI<\/strong> \/ recommended daily intake<\/a> is 1,000 mg minimum for adults, \u00a01,200mg for pregnant women (though this can be raised to 2,000 miligrams or 2 grams). For older adults 50 years over, this increases to 1,300 mg (gender-agnostic).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Just one (1) whole egg shell (presuming it is a \"large\"classification type),<\/strong> equates to <strong>two (2)<\/strong> grams of net calcium amount. However, <strong>800 mg<\/strong> of this is considered the elemental weight. This translates to <strong>around one (1) teaspoon of powder representing one (1) whole egg.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Storage wise, so long as it is kept dry and in \"cool\" temperature, they can be stored up to a month. Since I'd usually prioritise calcium intake from dairy (actual food calories there + a little more Vit D and K, plus proteins and fats) I'd freeze the egg powder instead and =use them <strong>supplementally<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11070\" src=\"https:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/oxystaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Eggshells_comp_2.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/oxystaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Eggshells_comp_2.webp 2560w, https:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/oxystaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Eggshells_comp_2-300x188.webp 300w, https:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/oxystaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Eggshells_comp_2-1024x640.webp 1024w, https:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/oxystaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Eggshells_comp_2-768x480.webp 768w, https:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/oxystaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Eggshells_comp_2-1536x961.webp 1536w, https:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/oxystaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Eggshells_comp_2-2048x1281.webp 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Other Trivias.<\/h2>\n<p>So what's in the egg shell? Well, firstly - the calcium.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;rct=j&amp;opi=89978449&amp;url=https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0032579124006527%23:~:text%3DEggshell%2520is%2520predominantly%2520composed%2520of,robust%2520state%2520of%2520calcium%2520metabolism.&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjw-sGdht2OAxUKpa8BHSWVEjIQFnoECCMQAw&amp;usg=AOvVaw2oTs7CeyED3Gjfmw0Av5xN\"><strong>It's calcium carbonate, specifically (CACO3).<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not a lot of other salts though ~ sulfur, potassium, zinc, manganese iron and copper were reported. Apparently very small amount, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/figure\/Chemical-compositions-of-egg-shells_tbl1_26469281\">not even close to approaching one % of weight<\/a> in general, except sulfur 2.3 to 3.5% (dry vs boiled hen egg shell, respectively).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Boiling the eggs just for 10 minutes, then followed by about 20 minutes for further cooking (the egg shells further), seem sufficient to eliminate all pathogens<a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC6221107\/\"> (Bartter J et al. 2018).\u00a0<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is not exactly solid or completely enclosed per se. Instead, <strong>tiny pores ranging from 9,000 on average per egg is proclaimed from one source,<\/strong> and another all the way to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;rct=j&amp;opi=89978449&amp;url=https:\/\/www.exploratorium.edu\/explore\/cooking\/egg-anatomy&amp;ved=2ahUKEwi2sIfVid2OAxVXf_UHHftmH0cQFnoECBgQAQ&amp;usg=AOvVaw2HXYhpagFHytOAhke3k5Fw\"> 17,000.<\/a> Thus, to prevent oxidation (simply from air exposure) obviously - it's important to store them in the fridge.<\/p>\n<h1>How to use?<\/h1>\n<p>Sprinkle them as is throughout all foods.<\/p>\n<p>Does it have a taste? Not really. At least from what I have incorporated over the years.<strong> It's not something you would ever take by the spoonful amounts. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It does have a distinct \"powdery smell\" that might bother some people. Put them in the fridge, closed tightly.
