This one is actually easier than last time. I would go with chicken<\/b> <strong>Frames.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h6><em>Originally instead of Tilapia I chose BASA FILLETS \/ catfish. However, knowing that basa is clearly the wors(er) evil, it made this \"contest\" somewhat far too easy for me to write. Hence, a slightly different fish here, the humble Tilapia, is chosen.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p3\">Once again as per previous format I\u2019ll overview on each item before explaining my rationale on the \u201cwinner\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10975\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/pexels-kindelmedia-8352786.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p4\"><b>The Tilapia<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\">For context, Tilapia has an interesting background.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li3\">Its name composes of Greek \u201ctalon\u201d and \u201cadios\u201d.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> C<\/span>ombined, literally translates to \u201cdistant fish\u201d.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">They\u2019re \u201chardy\u201d. They can adapt, even in the saltiest of waters. Even in <b>Salton Sea<\/b> where next to no other other fish species are known to survive.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s1\">As predominantly farmed, a report in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/fact-check\/tilapia-consumption\/\"> 2013 suggests that its worldwide production has <b>exceeded the production of beef.<\/b><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>As according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finterest.au\/stories\/why-dont-we-farm-tilapia-in-australia\"><strong>Queensland<\/strong> and <strong>NSW Biosecurity Act(s) ~<\/strong> Tilapia is recognized as \"<strong>noxious<\/strong>\" and \"<strong>Pest<\/strong>\"species.<\/a>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li>Reportedly, it is illegal for anyone to catch, keep, sell or set up a business in Tilapia farming.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p3\">And here - are the not-so-good things.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><b>They\u2019d eat anything. From vegetables to algae and\u2026.faeces. <\/b><br \/>\n<i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/fact-check\/tilapia-consumption\/\">Snopes.com<\/a> wrote quite an article on this. According to US Dept. of Agriculture, the Tilapia farming (at least in China)<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seafoodsource.com\/features\/op-ed-gaa-responds-to-misleading-dr-oz-show-report-on-tilapia-aquaculture\"> was rumoured to be highly unsanitary<\/a> in their conditions.\u00a0<\/i><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><b>...And consequently - potentiator for food poisoning.<\/b><br \/>\n<i>To be specific - \u201cScombroid\u201d poisoning due to its high inherent histidine content. <\/i><i>If ingested in large amount, Histidine potentially undergo conversion to excess <strong>homocysteine<\/strong>. If in excess cannot be detoxed properly by the liver, inflammation may result. <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6874284\/\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>Case study here. <\/i><\/span><\/a><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"s2\">Here is an attention grabbing headline. <a href=\"https:\/\/geneticliteracyproject.org\/2024\/06\/12\/food-myth-busting-is-tilapia-a-toxic-frankenfish\/\">\u201cHuman-made freak\u201d<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">And what I <em><strong>personally<\/strong> <\/em>do not like ~ is their palsy, teeny-tiny edible portions.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">Expect to see no more than 40% off any <strong>whole<\/strong> fish as edible portion. For every 500g, I am getting maybe around 250g worth edible matter. Also due to so much water weight, even smaller yield results.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So what \"good\" is it, then? They taste pretty good. I would ever so slightly rate this more palatable than that of Basa fillets; even if that's boneless.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><b>Chicken Frames ~ unappetising at first, but calorific long term (with caveat).\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\">\"Frames\" here refer to the skeletal \u201ccage\u201d of the bird.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">There may be a few dribbles of meat here and there, but don't expect good handful amount.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The biggest cons, is obviously the omega 6 PUFA on mostly the skin. On the flipside we have appreciable amount of gelatin and collagen off the bones. Pressure cooked ~ we can still net good amount of <strong>DIY stocks. If cooked long enough - some of the bones can actually be chewed as is <\/strong>(slightly grainy taste, given it is \"bone meal\", but not <em>that<\/em> bad).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I do however get somewhat uneasy from storage practicality. DIY stocks made from these <strong>tend to go off fairly quickly. <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Rancidity risk here <strong>if you keep the frames longer than a few days in the<\/strong> fridge.<\/p>\n<h1><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11070\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/chicken-frames_DSC00643.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"1440\" height=\"820\" \/><\/h1>\n<h1>Winner (of less evil): Chicken Frames.<\/h1>\n<p>With slight caveat ~ I recommend using them rather quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Chicken Frames, I'd wager like chicken necks, nonetheless have the advantage for DIY stocks which is flavoursome for all savoury dishes. A carb allowance meal with boiled rice, eggs, some of the frames, squeeze of lime and the stock =<strong>\u00a0comfort refeed meal.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Depending on the batch, you may or may not be lucky to have more meats on the bones.<\/p>\n<p>Tilapia on the other hand\u00a0 is<strong> very<\/strong> underwhelming in terms of edible yield.
