But at some point, people will always ask what my \u201chobbies\u201d are.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In short, something I invested for about eight years. Then (almost) nine years, at a loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Live it forward,<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">AW.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u2014<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p4\">My Definition of a \u201cHobby\u201d.<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\">As preface, I\u2019d like to define what I think a \u201chobby\u201d is. We all have our own \u201cescape\u201d, one way or another from the world of work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Suffice to say, mine is a little <b>esoteric. <\/b>Rewarding at one time. Disappointment on another.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">So what is it, exactly? It involves a lot of <em>listening<\/em>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><i>\u201cMusical fidelity\u201d, or simply Head-Fi. Headphones, \u201cvintage\u201d vacuum tubes. Power cords. DACs. Burn-in CDs* and more.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10843\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/R-22255258-1645485767-4523.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"597\" \/><\/p>\n<p>* Yes. A compact disc. Containing nothing but whites, brown, pink noise, and sweep tones. <strong>$40<\/strong> ~ was the price I remembered, ordering all the way from US. A little crazy, I know.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Another obsession followed. Vinyl collection (think of 2000s ~ golden era of soulful house, and deep house). Then more equipment. Buying a used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.technics.com\/global\/home\/sl1200\/heritage.html\">Technics 1200MK2<\/a> and swapping its tonearm myself literally required <strong>days<\/strong> worth of trying. Then, patiently recording each and every vinyl I hand-picked \/ ordered from all over the world, including all the (however few) vinyl record basement stores here in WA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Just like nutrition and \u201cfitness\u201d this hobby often projects a divisive conversation. Divisive, as in it is at first easy to ridicule because people they'd readily stereotype it all as a \"lifestyle\". Fuelled by \"irresponsible\" financial decisions. And thereby \"character\".<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">I don't blame them. Because it is after all very costly lifestyle for either<a href=\"https:\/\/www.headphonesty.com\/2024\/08\/confessions-audiophile-wife\/\">\u00a0<em><strong>keeping or breaking<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><strong>~ <\/strong>your significant relations. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">But I do have a counter question readily in my head whenever I'm questioned at odds. \"<em>What \"other things\" you have <del>wasted<\/del> spent on<strong>, offering little back, if at all ~ to the way you think, express or do throughout daily motions?\"<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Opioids? Drugs? Booze? NFT tokens? Or ~ even more crazier that so few people don't even ask - entire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/sailing\/comments\/8u2bqi\/is_the_hobby_really_as_inexpensive_as_ive_heard\/\"><strong>cars? and\/or Boats? <\/strong><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Welcome to another side of me ten years undisclosed. Then another ten years losing it all almost everything (involuntarily).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10818\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Audio_past-equipment.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">Beginnings.<\/h2>\n<p>So where did it all began?\u00a0 I grew up listening anything that is alternative. That includes <strong>foreign music. <\/strong>Japanese anime, movies and music in particular.<\/p>\n<p>I became interested about \"remastering\", or in the audio world ~ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=sweetening+audio+process&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enAU1015AU1015&amp;oq=sweetening+audio+process&amp;gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIICAEQABgWGB4yCAgCEAAYFhgeMggIAxAAGBYYHjIICAQQABgWGB4yCAgFEAAYFhgeMgoIBhAAGA8YFhgeMg0IBxAAGIYDGIAEGIoFMg0ICBAAGIYDGIAEGIoFMg0ICRAAGIYDGIAEGIoF0gEIMzU3M2owajeoAgCwAgA&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\"><strong>\"Sweetening\"<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 I took existing music and retone, re-equalize waveforms and burn them onto a disc (or Minidisc\u00ae, back then).\u00a0 Without knowing one iota about any of the tools - I found <strong>parametric EQs<\/strong> and \"FFT\" \/<strong> Fast fourier Transform<\/strong>, and<strong> Notch filters<\/strong> within Cool Edit ~ were the only things I spent the most time with.<\/p>\n<p>But call me guilty. I simply had no idea what I was doing. Completely void of patience, I was looking for anything, tools, effects\/filters that provide the most instant and tactile feedback to my ears.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But what comes next, is both embarrasment and regret. Listening to my \"work\" the next day<strong>\u00a0sounded atrocious<\/strong>. <strong>Horrible.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But I knew I was \"chasing\" for a sound signature I was after.<\/p>\n<p>More importantly ~ listening to foreign music showed me what \"distortion\", \"clipping\", \"warm\", and \"fatigue\" really meant not just to my ears. But also ~ my entire reaction, emotion, as a whole. <strong>And that taught\u00a0me something unique.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Music ~ is first and foremost a foreign language. I firstly hear (or encode) the melodic tonality <strong>first<\/strong>. Then (decoding) the lyrics, second. <strong>I tend to prioritize the first being more important than the latter.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Call me strange. The way I perceive \"speech\" is different than most people. I tend to notice the <strong>Tonality<\/strong> of someone's voice <strong>first<\/strong>. Then, the decoding the <strong>Content<\/strong> of that conversation, second.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In any case I spent days, weeks, months patiently burning album after album, one \"remastering\" edit after another. Churning out numerous failed CDRs and CDRWs. Hours sitting down in front of my old Sony multi-disc changer\/deck (and on Minidisc\u00ae). Listening for cues. Writing notes whether I should tweak certain regions. Or just restart my process all over again. Rinse and repeat.<\/p>\n<p>And thus began - my audiophile journey.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Greek Audiophile Society\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Z07gTWyyiM0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">Audiophile. (Greek ~ \u201cAudio, Love\u201d)<\/h2>\n<p><strong>What <em>reinforced all of<\/em> this ~ was me stumbling upon a short 2006 documentary about \"Greek Audiophile<\/strong> <strong>Society\". <\/strong>I was only 21 years back then.<\/p>\n<p>I entered the world of \"Head-fi\"; a segment of audiophile amongst (exclusively)) headphone-based setups.<\/p>\n<p>Long story short, here are (just few) things I have learned in retrospect of ten (10) years.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\"><i>I can tell differences between power cords, interconnects and DACs. My first DAC*, being Non-Oversampling or \u201cNOS\u201d in 2007 - was my very first proof of \u201cburn-in\u201d. Along the way, fell victim to the lure of snake oil \"tweaks\". But somehow, I can still <b>hear <\/b>the difference, the \"airiness\" between the musical layers ~ from a listening setup with and without ~ isolation feets.\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h6 class=\"p3\"><i>*As I\u2019m writing this (July 2024)\u00a0 as I decidedly switched the power on after ten+ years of hiatus ~ it's giving its last breath. It's developing a persistent left channel hiss for about 15 minutes upon powering. Certainly, it has had a great life :).\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p3\">Often, people resort to metaphors when it comes to describing sound. I am no different. Is it \u201cclinical\u201d? As in ~ forward, strident, cold, brittle?\u00a0 Or is it \u201cmusical\u201d ~ coloured, resolving, resolute, syrupy, effortless, rolled-off?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">My \"sonic signature\" preference, if anyone wants to know, is <strong>musical but \"incisive\". <\/strong>Full of information, but must be presented in a way that let me pay <em><strong>select<\/strong><\/em> attention, to any layer or part(s) of the music comfortably.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Mids ~\u00a0 organic and lush, but not mushed. Lows ~ I don't mind this to be slightly \"rolled of\" (fancy term for cut or reduced), but it must <em>hit<\/em> (in terms of sub) without <em>spilling on<\/em> everywhere else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Soundstaging and imaging? Deep and wide as possible, but not binary \"blobs\" ~ left, right and centre. I never wanted to be part of the \"mix\". That is extremely tiring, too upfront, and clinical listening experience to the point where I fail to understand why some call this \"High fidelity\". Instead of front-most row seat blasted with noise, let me sit at least three or four rows back. Let me observe not just the <em><strong>orchestra, but the entire ambience, the room, reflections, the 'space' of it all.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Subjectivity &amp; Snake Oils.<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\">There are some overlaps I find between audio and nutrition, all of which conveniently comes down to\"Subjectivity\".\u00a0 Anything that looks \u201cgood on paper\u201d, is NOT an indicator of \u201cgood sound\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Fitness coaches admit that <a href=\"https:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/cyclical-keto-if-the-why\/\">\u201cclean eating\u201d ~ does not work long term.<\/a> Just like chocolates and coffees - some bitterness is enjoyable.\u00a0<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">People actually <em>love<\/em> the sound of distortions. In the audio world we call it \"colouring\". NOS \/ non oversampling DACs and\/or any component with vacuum tubes, for that matter ~ fetches for anywhere between at least several hundreds to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Western+Electric+300+most+expensive&amp;sca_esv=0535bd5c4ba7e759&amp;sca_upv=1&amp;ei=1WSvZpPKA7We4-EPtKqKoQY&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjTiNDinNuHAxU1zzgGHTSVImQQ4dUDCBA&amp;uact=5&amp;oq=Western+Electric+300+most+expensive&amp;gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiI1dlc3Rlcm4gRWxlY3RyaWMgMzAwIG1vc3QgZXhwZW5zaXZlMgUQIRigATIFECEYoAEyBRAhGKABMgUQIRigAUjFEVCCBFjSEHABeAGQAQCYAYgCoAHTFaoBBTAuNC45uAEDyAEA-AEBmAIOoAL-FcICChAAGLADGNYEGEfCAgUQABiABMICBhAAGBYYHsICCxAAGIAEGIYDGIoFwgIIEAAYgAQYogTCAgcQIRigARgKmAMAiAYBkAYIkgcGMS4zLjEwoAeXLg&amp;sclient=gws-wiz-serp\">thousands of dollars.<\/a> Yes. Thousands. Just for a single vacuum tube to \"colour\" a certain sound to result in ab \"euphonic\", \"warm\" or \"sweet\" tonality.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">For those not aware how this \u201cindustry\u201d is received among general population, here is a little context. It involves <a href=\"https:\/\/wonderfulengineering.com\/obsessed-japanese-audiophiles-are-installing-personal-utility-poles-for-an-enhanced-audio-experience\/\"><span class=\"s1\">strange obsessions. Many to the point of extreme(s). <\/span><\/a>\u00a0And of course - an absurdly lot of money, even just <a href=\"https:\/\/robbreport.com\/gear\/audio\/slideshow\/10-of-the-most-expensive-power-cords-audiophiles-can-buy\/voodoo-cable-air-phoenix\/\"><span class=\"s1\">for a power cable. <\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">It is easy to dismiss this all as nothing but absolute snobbery. With the \u201cright\u201d marketing, <i>curiosity can be exploited into commodity. <\/i>This level of \u201csnake oil\u201d ~ I indeed fell victim as I dived a little too far down the rabbit-hole of \"<strong>tweaks<\/strong>\".\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=EMI+reduction+stone+audio&amp;sca_esv=24ffb5f5e02c9e2b&amp;sca_upv=1&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enAU1015AU1015&amp;udm=2&amp;biw=1920&amp;bih=968&amp;sxsrf=ADLYWIL06_Srv7jQpIRpuJJO8x1Z30K3uA%3A1724859000701&amp;ei=eELPZpK_Kp7h2roPnYvAyAY&amp;ved=0ahUKEwiS25jAgJiIAxWesFYBHZ0FEGkQ4dUDCBA&amp;uact=5&amp;oq=EMI+reduction+stone+audio&amp;gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiGUVNSSByZWR1Y3Rpb24gc3RvbmUgYXVkaW8yBBAjGCdIxA9QiA1YiA1wAXgAkAEAmAHPAaABzwGqAQMyLTG4AQPIAQD4AQGYAgGgAtUBmAMAiAYBkgcDMi0xoAesAg&amp;sclient=gws-wiz-serp\"><strong>\"EMI reduction stones\"<\/strong> <\/a>and \"<strong>cable elevators\" ~ these two (just as examples) I do not think change anything meaningful.<\/strong> At least not in my \"humble\" setup, anyway.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">But the most profound experience (yet also one of the more embarrassing, as I was only young \u201cback then\u201d) ~ was auditioning an (approx.) <b>$AUD50,000 setup\u00a0<\/b>in 2008.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">It was a mixed high-end brands setup (I believe) ~ inbetween <em>Chord<\/em>, <em>Marantz<\/em>, and <em>Ayre <\/em>. The Ayre component, as I may recall ~ was a \"Universal Stereo Player\" costing <strong>$15,000<\/strong> (back then). The entire setup <a href=\"https:\/\/soundnews.net\/amplifiers\/power-amps\/chord-electronics-ultima5-power-ultima-3-pre-in-depth-review\/\"><span class=\"s1\">looked something like this<\/span><\/a>. But obviously taller with <b>layer(s)<\/b> of equipment from the ground all the way to waist level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Pre-amplifier, separate mono-blocks, separate power supply, custom cabling, and power conditioner. All sitting neatly on proper rack with isolation feet(s) + whole sleuth of other \u201ctreatments\u201d. <b>I was, quite literally ~ frozen in time soon as I pressed play.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10817\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Audio_past-equipment_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>The next five to ten years was, pretty much decided from there on.<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\">I'd like to build a system of similar scale. Obviously, on <em><strong>the<\/strong><\/em> modest budget. Somehow.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u00a0(Early 1990s) consumer grade <a href=\"https:\/\/koss.com\/pages\/koss-history?srsltid=AfmBOooOTO01KMroe-a6Tm6ZaQDysRMwjgA1k6Zp0ElzpsoKitdEdODs\">electrostatic headphone under $1,000,<\/a>\u00a0 all the way from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stereo.com.sg\/\">a very small shop in Singapore<\/a>. Still remembering the store owner smiling at me curiously\u00a0 ~ <strong>\"...All the way from Australia, just for this?\".\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">For looks, I even fell for the exotic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=firefox-b-d&amp;q=W5000+raffinato\"><span class=\"s1\">Shima-Kokutan wooden anniversary Audio <\/span><\/a>Technica<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=firefox-b-d&amp;q=W5000+raffinato\"><span class=\"s1\"> closed back<\/span><\/a>. I ended up buying it by \"money order\" all the way from Japan. Even though the mids sounded \u201chonky\u201d and the highs somewhat too much for me - I kept it anyway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">For headphone amps ~ frenzy buying and selling between solid states, hybrids and tubes; amounting anywhere up to thousands per year. Everything felt justified and necessary. The most expensive headphone amplifier I had on hand cost over <b>$1,400<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">From a skeptic to believer in isolation treatments ~ I bought a set of <a href=\"https:\/\/theaudioexperts.com.au\/products\/taoc-high-carbon-insulator\">made-in-Japan carbon fibre isolation feet, costing just over $400 for a pack of four (4).\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The most I\u2019ve ever spent on a \u201csource component\u201d was a CD player<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> costing <\/span>over <b>$1,500 for brief (albeit only several days) worth of audition<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The most I have ever spent on a power cord, a silver one that is (made by independent brand \u201cPassion Audio\u201d I believe) was <b>$400.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The \"strangest\" cables I ever tried - was a pure <strong>solid<\/strong> copper interconnect pair that <strong>actually required physical force<\/strong> <strong>to bend<\/strong> them to precise connecting positions. Otherwise, it will never lock into contact, and if not in correct position ~ may warp or worse ~ damage the RCA sockets. For courtesy I won't name the brand here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">All these including IEMs ~ Etymotics ER4P and ER4S, and Westones 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">That\u2019s just \u201cone\u201d segment of this hobby. Crates of vinyl. Mixers. Used CDJs. Turntables. And cleaning sleeves were next.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10816\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Audio_past-equipment_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"p3\"><strong>But all that? Came to an end.<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p class=\"p3\"><strong>I had to sell everything.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My health headed south. 2012 came my hyperacusis diagnosis \/ \"unidirectional intolerance\" as I often rephrase it. Then, my first ever disc injury led to diagnosis of <strong>Ankylosing Spondylitis. <\/strong>Compounded with the<strong>\u00a0loss<\/strong> of finances in <strong>between 2016-2022 ~<\/strong> I was literally pitching work for free as part of tailored job applications nearing the hundred(ths).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">I have sold all the above. Including the very last of vinyl crate. Leaving all but few cabling, power conditioner and few remaining accessories despite I had no functional utilities on their own (because all ancillaries and components were sold).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p7\">I \u201cleft\u201d all interests on audio for about seven+ years starting from 2015 all the way to 2024.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p7\">Only until recently as of May, as I am thankful for having reclaimed my finances ~ I decided to revisit this journey back. Hopefully, reclaiming that much needed \u201c<i>escape\u201d <\/i>I've lost for almost a decade earlier.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"p9\"><b>Revisiting the \u201chobby\u201d.<\/b><\/h1>\n<p class=\"p7\">In mid 2024, <b>a <i>lot <\/i><\/b><i>has<\/i> <em>changed<\/em> in the entire audio landscape. Mostly are heading for the better. But more on this later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p7\">I am slowly rebuilding my humble setup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p7\">Firstly, from a bit beat up, but grateful-purchased in \u201922 of used Bose QC35II ($150) for commuting. And for casual listening at home - AKG182 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aliexpress.com\/item\/1005005335027669.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.28.63c01802VheiGH\"><span class=\"s1\">with new silver cabling<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10820\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TimelessAE_switcher.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"611\" height=\"382\" \/><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10819\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Dongles.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"611\" height=\"381\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7\">But for proper listening, I am rebuilding my inventory from the ground up. Starting with my (used) main work computer ~ Mac Mini M1, base and lowest model.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p7\">Planar IEMS first, then headphones. Starting with the <strong>\"Let's Shouer\" S12Pro<\/strong> ~ I found them very plain, bassy and uninteresting until <strong>7HZ<\/strong> <b>Timeless AE came in.<\/b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> I am also currently evaluating <strong>Avantone Planar (#1)<\/strong>, a promising budget planar given their wide praises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7\">In terms of amplification ~ over the years I have been using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aliexpress.com\/item\/1005007083154808.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.13.153635722VfYEc&amp;algo_pvid=8896ccca-3352-43ec-bbbc-e75d0f5de15b&amp;algo_exp_id=8896ccca-3352-43ec-bbbc-e75d0f5de15b-6&amp;pdp_npi=4%40dis%21AUD%2110.57%214.86%21%21%216.98%213.21%21%402103011417214629849364729e0e64%2112000039341519625%21sea%21AU%210%21AB&amp;curPageLogUid=Pdm7REus5JTh&amp;utparam-url=scene%3Asearch%7Cquery_from%3A\"><span class=\"s1\">$AUD5 switcher<\/span><\/a> (yes $5 ~ the picture above is another $5 replacement). Reason for this is that I needed a much more comfortable volume control range to get rid of channel imbalances, and the<b> <\/b>extremely-limited increments between very quiet vs very loud. However I have been evaluating a used <strong>Matrix M Stage <\/strong>(sadly prone to developing ground loop). That necessitated going the next step up balanced version (<strong>Quattro<\/strong>)<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>from a very generous seller.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p7\">For DACs, I am rotating in-between the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>$50AUD <a href=\"ES9281C%20PRO\"><span class=\"s1\">Sabre ES9281C Pro<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aliexpress.com\/item\/1005006632010794.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.43.754d1802R4YYrA\"><span class=\"s1\">$11AUD Conexant CX31993<\/span><\/a> based dongles and at some stage I look forward to replace the modified NOS DAC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p7\">For power cords ~ I kept my first bought (custom made\/independent) \u201cPassion Audio\u201d $400AUD silver power cord back since 2008\/09. But I am finding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aliexpress.com\/item\/1005005043427191.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.22.63c01802KXFo1b\"><span class=\"s1\">Aliexpress &lt;$50AUD silver power cords<\/span><\/a>* comparable as I use them in-between sources, and power conditioners, albeit less resolving than the Passion Audio.<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"p7\"><i>*Noteworthy trivia: there appears to be two (2) variants. I slightly prefer the one with Krell audio labelled on the plug, with a shorter length if possible; for noticeably better instrument\/layered focus. Old and new.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p7\">\u00a0Culture and demographics wise, the entire head-fi industry seem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=W3ZxzsycKCg\"><strong>a lot more accommodating to younger audiences<\/strong>.<\/a> Certainly a lot less (albeit still in various places) <strong>snobby and uptight<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p7\">However, just like any other industries, science included - there's controversy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p7\">Verum Audio, <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/verumaudio\/verum-2-audiophile-planar-magnetic-headphones\">one-man business and startup led by Igor Krasnov (by alias @Garuspik)<\/a>, <\/b>gained a little more than prolific acclaims of the wildly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/verumaudio\/verum-2-audiophile-planar-magnetic-headphones\">succesful Kickstarter campaign<\/a> for the\u00a0 debut <b>Verum MK1.\u00a0<\/b>Priced at $350USD, it reportedly competes with the likes of 500 or even $1000USD range.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p7\">At one point I was absolutely convinced to make an order. But <b>allegations (turned reality) of Igor's behaviours <\/b>were serious enough it made me hesitant. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/headphones\/comments\/1e1gysv\/does_verum_audio_deserve_the_boycott_heres_what\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Sending death threats <b><i>to <\/i><\/b><i>one of his customers<\/i><\/span><\/a><i> for instance, amongst other questionables <a href=\"https:\/\/audiosciencereview.com\/forum\/index.php?threads\/verum-racist-and-vile-please-dont-give-him-business.4494\/page-9\">bordering racism<\/a> that I had no time reading, all led to his membership bans from multiple forums ~ head-fi, Audio Science Review, and Super Best Audio Friends included.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p7\">But shifting gears ~ thankfully there have been brighter news coming from the other side of the globe.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p7\"><i>Small family based businesses, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2ryH-JRhFpA\">Geshelli Labs<\/a> chiefly among others, are such important examples for<\/strong> adding that much needed \u201chuman\u201d face, amidst otherwise sterile \"brand\" names associated with status, profit and \"establishment\".<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lstnsound.com\/\">LSTN.co<\/a> is a headphones manufacturer unlike a corporate or for profit brands. For every headphone sold, a portion gets donated to a hearing restoration foundation for developing countries.<\/p>\n<p>There's an open public event (by invite most likely) for any one to audition a million dollar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.headphonesty.com\/2024\/07\/audiophile-priest-million-dollar-setup-public-listening\/\">(yes, one million dollar)<strong> audiophile \"library\" setup<\/strong>.<\/a> A \"Library\" that I shall repeat run and maintained by volunteers.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Over 20,000 LPs, 15,000 CDs, or alternatively, music streaming via Qobuz or Tidal. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.headphonesty.com\/2024\/07\/audiophile-priest-million-dollar-setup-public-listening\/\">Reviews suggest a one of kind experience.<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Certainly interesting in terms of that \"one-day\" moment. But the fees of a return ticket to the other side of the globe, followed by just an hour or two in the auditioning room ~ might be a little too disproportional for me. Oh well, I may just park this for that yet another \"<em>one day<\/em>\" moment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10850\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Andrew_Audio_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"p11\"><b>Conclusion<\/b><\/h1>\n<blockquote><p>Improperly as far as sharing a glimpse of \u201cAbout Me\u201d goes ~ I have to end it here.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">There are <b>many<\/b> things in life that cannot be explained simply through \u201cnumbers\u201d. Sound is one of them.<\/p>\n<p>From the outside I have \"problems\" people do not ably relate. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=idiopathic&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enAU1015AU1015&amp;oq=idiopathic&amp;gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQABiPAjIHCAIQABiPAtIBCDEwNDdqMGo3qAIAsAIA&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\">\"Idiopathic\"<\/a> as they might say from the outside. But I'd argue there lies so many things, biologically within we're yet to understand. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/autoimmunity-has-reached-epidemic-levels-we-need-urgent-action-to-address-it\/\">Auto-immunity for instance<\/a>~ \u00a0why cells \"behave\" or mounting an attack by inflammation response, often without rational explanation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">We are after all, individual(s) subjected to individual - experiences. To say that we are <strong>numbers,<\/strong> grossly implies we are all \"<strong>constant(s)<\/strong>\".\u00a0 With this in mind in nutritional science I find \u201ccase studies\u201d much more compelling to read than \u201cmeta analysis\u201d or \u201cresearch reviews\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>How I hear is different than most people. I pay attention not just the <em>content.<\/em> But the wider <em>context <\/em>starting with their tonality. <em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Would I actually have \u201ctime\u201d to reclaim everything what I have lost? Given the worsening times, I'm not sure. I may instead prepare once again that I may <strong>lose<\/strong> everything.
