All responses here are originally my own, were I be held in such a situation.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>As reminder: <\/strong>anything \"impactful\"or \"objective\" by ways of research gathering, or purveying\u00a0 throughout this channel remains your own responsibility to exercise mind-over-matter. Specifically within this topic on how to handle difficult conversations - be prepared that all of these ideas remain just that - ideas; and may not be readily appropriate for all circumstances.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If there is one train of thought I can safely leave for all arguments is this -<em> \"I'm happy to listen. But once you're done, we're done.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And that whenever I am at a loss for words? \"As you were.\" ~ would be my trademark.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/live-it-forward-gratuity-model\/\">Live-It-Forward,<\/a><\/p>\n<p>AW.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>1\/6<br \/>\nObserve. Survey.<\/h2>\n<p>Whenever you are confronted, irrespective family, public or work situations always remember to <strong>observe<\/strong> your surroundings. <strong>Survey <\/strong>all inputs from the other third party. But these are easier than said than done. At least, try to gauge the conversation whether it is steering <strong>you<\/strong> to either:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>a possible debate, or<\/li>\n<li>a coincidental discovery ~ \"<em>me-too \/ we have something in common\".\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote><p>Either way, the key here is to not rely on <strong>instinct<\/strong> or knee jerk impulses.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Throughout the next five or six bullet food for thoughts I propose the following byte-sized TLDR's:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Prepare a Warning statement.<\/li>\n<li>Get to know the argument.<\/li>\n<li>Gauge \/ judge (internally) this overall argument. Constructive? Proceed. If not, pave an exit.<\/li>\n<li>How to pave a an exit. Give them a compliment. Tell them they're right. But don't promise them anything.<\/li>\n<li>How to deal with sarcasm. Try <strong>not<\/strong> to play along.<\/li>\n<li>How to deal with angry barks \/ defensive remarks. Apologize to them, for they are <em>that<\/em> sensitive.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>1\/6<br \/>\nPrepare a Warning statement.<\/h2>\n<p>This is simply a warning to make the other party aware of the conversation's entire trajectory. Try responding somewhere along these lines:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>\"Okay I am happy to discuss this further, but beware that we (both) are about to enter an <strong>involuntary<\/strong> debate. Are you okay with this?\"<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>2\/6<br \/>\nGet to know the argument.<\/h2>\n<p>This is where you try to understand the context. With probing questions wherever needed ~ the high level <em>theme<\/em> of the conversation.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Ask ~ \"What\"<\/strong> their ~ stance, opinion, judgment or argument is.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ask - \"How\"<\/strong> they came about such an argument.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ask ~ \"When\"<\/strong> do they, or how long have they been convinced in their own argument, and\/or conclusion.<\/li>\n<li>Then lastly. the <strong>Why.<\/strong> Why do they think they are more superior over everything else.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p1\">The more time you allow them to speak, the more you will get to observe their perspective. And also for courtesy - to allow them, in their own <b><i>time<\/i><\/b> to clarify their stance\/s.<\/p>\n<h2>3\/6<br \/>\nGauge the overall argument. If it is worth debating, continue. If not, pave an exit.<\/h2>\n<p>If you feel the conversation is <strong>worth progressing, then continue. <\/strong>Otherwise, pave a respectful exit,\u00a0 somewhere along these lines:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\"I don't feel the need to argue about this. Because I feel it is unnecessary.\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I don't think this dialogue benefit either of us. Because you might be as sensitive as I am when it comes to debates.\"<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>If they comply, then this is very important<\/strong> ~ <strong>do not<\/strong> <strong>continue, do not probe, and do not say any other word at all. Consider your stance a \"winner\". <\/strong>Give them a compliment, and thanks for their input.<\/p>\n<p>If they refuse to end the conversation, you can bet this conversation have now escalated to the next level.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/shawnanggg-2aPfcyAC2cc-unsplash.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10224\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/shawnanggg-2aPfcyAC2cc-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"Shawn Anggg @ Unsplash\" width=\"522\" height=\"870\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Shawn Anggg @ Unsplash<\/p>\n<h2>4\/6<br \/>\nGeneral \/ probing responses<\/h2>\n<p>Consider these lines as your defense either prior or amidst to rationalize why you justify paving an exit off this debate. The keyword here is <strong>\"unnecessary\".\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>\"I do not like talking about &lt;nutrition \/ health \/ topics&gt; in general. Because I know I will become subject for <strong>unnecessary<\/strong> attention\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I do not like talking about &lt;nutrition \/ health \/ topics&gt; in general. Because I know everyone is too fragile in their own values, dogma and\/or belief systems. I felt it is <strong>unnecessary<\/strong> therefore to compete.\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I do not like talking about &lt;nutrition \/ health \/ topics&gt; in general. Because I know everyone always have something to disagree about Science. And Because I know you will contest against everything I present. You will do everything in your power to prove you are more right than me. And that - is <strong>unnecessary.<\/strong>\"<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Observe their reaction. If you feel the conversation is still going nowhere,\u00a0 consider or adapting the following counter question\/s:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>\"What's in it for you, if you are not willing to change anyway, regardless of what you hear from me?\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"My time is precious to me. And I know what is <strong>necessary<\/strong> for me and my stance in Science without the need to over-step others. What about you? Do you think this debate is <strong>necessary<\/strong> to you? What do <strong>you, yes you \"alone\" ~<\/strong> gain from this debate?\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"Are you providing others <strong>open<\/strong> food for thoughts? Or are you forcing your <strong>own closed<\/strong> thoughts over others?\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"Are you expecting to be entertained or are you trying to provide a critique?\"<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>5\/6<br \/>\nPaving an exit \/ Ending the conversation.<\/h2>\n<p>As soon as you feel a hint or an opportunity allowing you to make an exit, then proceed by these sample conclusive remarks. The goal here is to compliment them.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>\"You're right. Nobody cares about your health, as much as you do.\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"You're right. Nobody is more stubbornly correct, as you do.\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"You're right. I am not perfect by anyone's standards. Not even you.\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"You're right. The world would be a perfect ~ if everyone is as perfect as you.\"<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The goal here is to promise them nothing. But at least (for now) ~\u00a0 acknowledge their stance or \"opinion\". Aim for a conclusion <strong>at leaving them \"be\". <\/strong>Let nature and\/or karma takes care of the rest.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n<h1>....But what about if you're caught in the weeds?<\/h1>\n<p>That is, what if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are being caught or lured into a hostile conversation.<\/li>\n<li>Your train of thought or argument is being spun-off into a direction elsewhere than intended.<\/li>\n<li>You are dealing with sarcastic remarks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are what I would do.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10252\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/john-noonan-QM_LE41VJJ4-unsplash.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10252\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10252\" src=\"http:\/\/nutritional-humility.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/john-noonan-QM_LE41VJJ4-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"John Noonan @ Unsplash\" width=\"640\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-10252\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">John Noonan @ Unsplash<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><b>1\/2<br \/>\nIf they respond with sarcasm ~ give them a compliment. But ask what's in it for them.<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><em>I would not<\/em> respond back with sarcasm. Otherwise, you will look clumsy downplaying the entire conversation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">If you are caught in a situation where the other party expects more \u201centertainment\u201d, try to remain conscious, and question ~ the other\u2019s intentions by gently raising the <strong>what<\/strong>, <strong>how<\/strong> and <strong>why of their <\/strong>supposed-compliments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Then, try the following response for a hopefully mutual quiet exit; between two (or more) of you.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li><em>\"Thank you. I consider that a compliment. But what's in it for you?\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><em><span class=\"s1\">\u201c<\/span>You know what? You might know a thing or two that nobody else does. Have you thought about writing a blog?\"<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p3\">Depending on situation (and\/or context), sarcasm can potentiate <strong>compliments, depending on the situation, timing and acquaintance<\/strong>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>However, one should never assume this as a way to meld with <em>anyone<\/em>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> Because <\/span>at the end of the day and more often than not ~ it is nothing else but a setup or a ploy, for unsolicited amusement.<\/p>\n<h2>2\/2<br \/>\n<b>If they respond with threat and\/or anger ~do not <em>add<\/em> to the fire.\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p5\">What happens if you come across defensive bark\/s?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><em>Eg. ~ (\u201cWhat? Are you judging me?\u201d \/ \"Who do you think you are?\")<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">First and foremost, do not add fire with more fire. Otherwise, they''d ask for <strong>more<\/strong> <strong>reactions<\/strong> out of you. Instead, try questioning their own rationale:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\"I'm sorry I didn't expect you to bark at me that way. Did I ask you to get angry? Did I ask you to raise your voice?\" If so, you must be mistaken for something else.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p5\">The goal here is to pave for yourself a polite exit.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li5\"><em>\u201cI don\u2019t like the tone of this conversation. But I let you finish. And I will not respond. Once you\u2019re done, we\u2019re done.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"I am simply responding a train of thought I believe is rational, and one that acknowledge both of us. But since you're mistaken this as threat, okay I apologize ~ that you must be so sensitive.\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><em>\u201cIt\u2019s interesting you\u2019ve brought up &lt;such and such topic&gt; have you thought about writing a blog on this?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><em>\u201cIt\u2019s interesting you\u2019ve raised &lt;this and that&gt;. But how many people actually agree with you? Just curious.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\"If you are trying to beat or compete over someone, why not improve yourself?
